I’ll have really white teeth for Christmas.

July 9, 2009

I think the first time I saw this commercial was Halloween. No joke.

Although

Anyway, I’m just getting around to posting it now since I saw it like 90 times. It’s the Crest WhiteStrips commercial featuring “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” apparently by Ben Taylor

Talk about freaking cute.

February 20, 2009

I always hate when commercials do super cute stuff that I wished I had thought up, but if I ever do them, then I will just be copying a commercial.

Like the AT&T commercial where the Dad takes all the pictures of his daughter’s stuffed monkey while on his business trip. Wish I had thought to do that, but I didn’t. Of course, I don’t even have any kids, but that’s besides the point. I might someday. Either kids or a Porshe.

Anyhow, here is the super cute commercial featuring the super cute song “Sweet Pea” by Amos Lee.

Wake up.

February 20, 2009

I doubt the people who listen to Her Space Holiday have ever bought any furniture from Bassett.

I was also surprised to discover that this was Her Space Holiday, singing the catchy song “Sleepy Tigers” in the new Bassett Furniture commercials. Last time I listened to them I was in love with a song called “Keystroke,” and it was a little more ambiatic than this, to say the least.

You can watch the commercial at the Bassett Furniture Web site (because I was too lazy to look extensively for it on YouTube), and download “Sleepy Tigers” for free at Amazon.

The most grammatically incorrect iPod ever.

February 20, 2009

Also known as the “funnest.” Maybe TBWA/Media Arts Lab laid off their proofreader. I mean, the economy does suck. Maybe the copywriter thought it would make the commercial MORE fun if he/she used wonky grade school grammar. I’m not sure the word “funnest” has that much pull to be honest.

Anyhow, the commercial features “No You Girls” by Franz Ferdinand. Definitely a fun song, I’m not gonna lie.

Stalkers.

January 30, 2009

I love the new Geico commercials where the googley-eyed money is stalking people who could be saving more money by switching to Geico. I pretty much think you can put googley eyes on anything and it will make it either cute or creepy. Luckily, Geico got cute with this little guy (who is being called Kash). Otherwise, people would be begging for that little Gecko to come back.

Anyhow, at the end of the commercials, and you might actually miss that there is a song there, a REAL SONG, too, like I missed the first dozen or so times I saw these commercials. But anyhow, the song is Mysto & Pizzi’s remake of Rockwell’s “Somebody’s Watching Me” with vocals by Renald Francoeur.

You can also download the song here, on Geico’s Web site.

Electro driving

January 30, 2009

I guess with the popularity of “electro” music (don’t let anyone fool you, it’s techno, but techno is lame, so they renamed it), it only makes sense that car commercials would also go all electro on us. Like this one from Cadillac, which also feature the song (interestly enough, not a Dim Mak remix by Uffie or something) “Stars” by one of my favorite bands EVAR, Hum. Look at those lights. Wow, she’s going FAST.

Or this new electro car commercial for the Ford Flex, featuring the song “L.E.S Artistes” by Santogold. Both of these commercials are probably a relatively good representation of what it feels like to be on mushrooms and driving (I don’t know this personally, I’m just saying).

Wes Marc Jacobs-Anderson

January 30, 2009

I recently saw The Darjeeling Limited for the first time. I know, a bit late for my hipster cred.

I rather enjoyed it, and it made me want to whip out Bottle Rocket, The Royal Tenenbaums, etc. and have a completely lazy weekend of just watching Wes Anderson movies (and the Vampire Weekend “Oxford Comma” video).

The thing that was confusing to me was the prominence of the Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton luggage (which you can’t buy – sorry hipsters and people fakely flaunting wealth). Apparently Wes Anderson is a huge fan or something. But the confusion between made-up brands and real brands in Wes Anderson movies has always got to me. Fake cab company, called Gypsy Cab, funnily enough, and everyone smokes – but not a real brand of cigarettes. But Adidas tracksuits and Lacoste dresses and Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton luggage?

President Barack Obama

January 20, 2009

Today, during the Inauguration of Barack Obama, Yo-Yo Ma (cello), Anthony McGill (clarinet), Gabriela Montero (piano) and Itzhak Perlman (violin) performed “Air and Simple Gifts” as arranged by John Williams. It ruled, because they all rule, and John Williams rules.

Simplifing everyday choices, brought to you by Reese’s

January 14, 2009

I would just like to point out to everyone that Reese’s is pronounced “Reese,” as in “Reese Witherspoon,” not some made-up variation like Reesey’s, because “pieces” is not pronounced “peeseys.” FYI.

Anyhow, Reese’s has a new commercial out about never having to choose between peanut butter and chocolate. It finished with “Perfect,” and really, who is going to argue with Reese’s on that one? The music featured in this commercial is “Jupiter, the bringer of Jollility” (is that even a WORD?) as written by Gustav Holst.

Having musician parents does, in fact, pay off.

Here’s the commercial:

We get it, Kohl’s.

December 20, 2008

I feel like I’ve been bombarded with Kohl’s commercial this past year, but I also have to say that the last time I was in Kohl’s, it looked like they stepped things up quite a bit and I actually bought something. However, I don’t even know where a Kohl’s is since I’ve moved, so I haven’t been back.

Anyway, Kohl’s has some new commercials for the holidays. I’ve been seeing them since November. There a few different versions, but each commercial features a cover of Bobby Darin’s “Beautiful Things” by Shiny Lapel Trio.

I love Bobby Darin, and you can hear the original here.
